Prior to Justice Agarwal's appointment, Justice Sonia Gokani briefly served as the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court until her retirement in February 2023. Following her retirement, Justice AJ Desai served as the acting Chief Justice, who has now been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court
