Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court Justice N. Kotishwar Singh will personally visit and inspect a Gaushala at a village in Nargota, following reports of apparently pathetic conditions therein.

The Division bench also comprising Justice Puneet Gupta said, "We will visit the Gaushala situated at Village Seri Khurd, Nagrota on 02.06.2023." It has asked the Commissioner of the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), the Director of Animal Husbandry Jammu, and the Municipal Veterinary Officer of the JMC to be present during the Chief Justice's visit to the cattle pond/Goushala. Additionally, the advocates representing both sides, the petitioner Chairperson SAVE, and Devinder Kour Madaan alias Rimpy Madaan to remain present during the visit.

The Court was hearing a PIL highlighting the dilapidated condition of a cattle pond/Goushala at Village Seri Khurd (Nagrota). Court said it would take first hand account of the allegations levelled in the petition.

Counsels for the petitioner submitted that they had conducted a surprise visit to the cattle pond on April 8, 2023 and during their visit, they witnessed the dilapidated condition of the Goushala, where the animals were locked inside sheds even during daylight hours, without being allowed to graze freely.

Advocate SS Ahmed informed the court that the entire surprise visit was video-graphed and requested the Division Bench to watch the video in open court to understand the deplorable condition of the cattle in the Goushala.

The Bench then watched the video in open court which depicted the sorry state of affairs at the Goushala. It has granted the respondents a week’s time to respond to the report submitted by the petitioner.

Case Title: SAVE through its Chairperson Vs State & Ors.

Counsel For Petitioner: Mr. S.S Petitioner Ahmed, Advocate Ms. Supriya Chouhan, Advocate Mr. Zulkernain Chowdhary, Advocate.
