Karnataka High Court Directs Police To Lodge Complaint Against Man Allegedly Duped Into Paying ₹1 Crore To Secure Job At ISRO

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday directed the police to register a complaint against a person (complainant) who is claimed to have been duped to the tune of over Rs 1 crore by a woman (petitioner-accused) and others on the promise of securing him a job at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).A vacation bench of Justice Suraj Govindaraj issued notice to the respondents on the bail petition filed by petitioner Vinutha M E and said:“The first respondent (Annapoorneshwarinagara police station) is directed to register a complaint against complainant in crime no 165/2025, since the allegation made by the complainant is that the complainant paid a sum of Rs 1.03 crore, to the petitioner and certain others for the purpose of obtaining a job in a reputed organisation like the ISRO.” Further it said, “A copy of the order is to be forwarded to the Chairman of ISRO so as to enable the said Chairman to take such action as may be necessary. Registrar Judicial to place the proof of such forwarding to the Chairman of ISRO by the next date of hearing, June 4.” The court has also directed the petitioner-accused to place on record details of the crime registered against her registered in Kollegal police station and the Chikkamagaluru town police station on the next date of hearing. According to complainant Sanjay N, in August 2024 the accused woman came to his residence at Nagarabhavi and convinced him to get a graphic designer's job at ISRO, and took Rs. 37 lakh from him. She also got a fitness certificate from Victoria Hospital, but he did not receive any appointment order. When questioned, she asked him to pay an additional amount of Rs 23 Lakh by way of cash. The accused also took Sanjay to ISRO, and had him introduced to Supratho Patho, Reddappa, Rajendra AK and Anil Kumar, and they demanded that he pay the amount. Believing he would get the job, he paid up Rs 23 lakh. Over time, Sanjay paid a total of Rs 1.03 crore in installments but the accused failed to get the job or repay the money. Following which he registered a case against the accused. Seeking bail the counsel for the accused contended that the petitioner is a house wife and co-accused in the case have been granted bail. On going through the record bench pointed out that the petitioner was accused in two other cases and she was a 'Habitual offender'. However, the counsel contended that the petitioner was not involved but her husband was accused in those cases and sought for bail by imposing conditions.Case Title: Vinutha M E AND State of Karnataka Case No: Criminal Petition 7436/2025.
