The Kerala High Court on Wednesday (15 July) directed the Kerala University to place on record the decision of its Syndicate regarding the proposed measurement of land in the University's possession.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Syam Kumar V.M, issued the direction, while considering a Public Interest Litigation preferred by the ex-Joint Registrar of the varsity, challenging the assignment of the University's land to AKG Centre for Research and Studies in the year 1977.
"The name AKG Memorial Research Centre was only a camouflage whereas, the extent of property was assigned for the purpose of constructing the building to be used as the official office of CPI(M), a recognized political party," the PIL claimed.
The Court had earlier directed the State and AKG Centre to file their counter affidavits.
Today, the counsel for the respondent 5 and 6 (AKG Centre and Secretary, CPI(M)) sought two weeks time to cure the defects in the counter affidavits filed.
The Counsel for the University at this point submitted that the University Syndicate, in its last meeting, decided to measure the entire property in its possession. He sought time to submit the minutes of the meeting before the Court.
The Court thus directed the University to submit a report disclosing the decision of the Syndicate within two weeks.
"Learned counsel for the respondent 3 and 4 sought time to place before us the decision of the Syndicate. Learned counsel for respondent 5 and 6 submitted that there are some defects and prayed for two weeks time to cure the defects.. Matters are adjourned for two weeks... A report in the form of affidavit disclosing the decision of the Syndicate shall be placed on the adjourned date.." Court ordered.
The matter is posted after two weeks.
