Kerala High Court Directs Executive Committee Of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple To Submit Timeline For Renovation Of Principal Idol

The Kerala High Court on Monday (09 February) directed the Executive Committee of Sree Padamanbhaswamy Temple to submit a timeline for completion of the work of the Moolavigraha (Principal Idol) of the temple.The division bench comprising Justice Devan Ramachandran and Justice M B Snehalatha were considering a petition which alleged defects in the temple's Moolavigraha.The Court had earlier directed the Administrative Committee of the temple to update it on the consent of the shilpis (sculptors) and the finalisation of materials required for renovation of the temple's Moolavigraha.The matter was previously adjourned on account of 'Lakshadeepam' festival and 'Murajapam' being held in the temple.Today, when the matter was taken up, the Counsel appearing for the Chief Thanthri submitted that the latter has clearly defined time line and the processes for completion of the restoration work.The Court noted that the Executive Committee of which the Chief Thanthri is a member should sit with members of the Expert Committee and make available the report to the Court as to the specific timelines of the work that are required to be completed. The Court further added that it should have been completed earlier itself, since the Murajapam was completed almost a month ago. “However, we are of the view that this is only because there appears to be some disconnect between the Expert Committee and the executive committee. We therefore, order that the Executive Committee will have a meeting with the Expert Committee on a continuous basis if possible and create a timeline for the works and process that needs to be completed.” Court ordered. It further directed that the meeting should result in a comprehensive report of all the work that needs to be done, along with the proposed timeline. The Court has directed the report to be submitted within a period of ten days. The matter is posted after 10 days for further consideration.
