Kerala High Court Grants Bail To Intelligence Officer Accused Of Abetting Girlfriend's Suicide

The Kerala High Court on Thursday granted bail to Sukanth Suresh, an intelligence officer allegedly involved in the suicide of his girlfriend/colleague.Justice Bechu Kurien Thomas allowed the bail stating that the accused has been in custody for 44 days and no purpose is served by further custody. According to the prosecution, the accused had sexually exploited the victim under the promise of marriage and thereafter, he abetted the commission of her suicide, pursuant to which the victim committed suicide. The prosecution argued that the accused should not be granted bail since the report of the mobile phone is awaited and he has to be interrogated on the basis of the report. The petitioner's application for anticipatory bail was dismissed earlier and thereafter he surrendered before the investigating authority and has been in custody since 27/05/2025.The court observed that the main purpose of investigation has already been carried out. Hence bail has been granted with conditions. BackgroundMegha Madhusoodhanan, a Security Assistant/ Executive with the Bureau of Immigration at Trivandrum Airport reportedly died by jumping in front of a train in Pettah Railway station. The family alleges that she was financially exploited by Sukanth and a major portion of her salary was transferred to him. The family also alleged that the deceased took the extreme step after Sukanth withdrew from the relationship.
