The Kerala High Court on Friday (10 July) vacated its interim order granting police protection to Viral Kumbh Mela Star Monalisa Bhosle.

Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas vacated the order when it was informed by the government pleader that the police was unable to trace or locate the petitioner based on the contact number or the address provided.

"The issue is that after getting the order...The police is unable to trace the person. They wanted to give the protection, but this person was not able to trace.. Now, it is a regular pattern from the petitioner. Every time, she comes for police protection, but the police are unable to contact her.. The entire responsibility is on the Police," Government Pleader submitted.

The counsel appearing for Monalisa submitted that he had no instructions in the matter.

The Court thus vacated its interim order:

"In view of the above submission, the interim order dated 19 June is vacated. In case, the petitioner approaches the police and request for police protection in writing the second respondent shall provide necessary protection for the petitioner." the Court ordered.

The matter is posted for further consideration on 21 July.

The development comes in a plea moved by Monalisa alleging that hate campaigns were propagated against her on mainstream media and online platforms following her marriage with Farmaan, a Muslim man.

The young woman, who became popularly known as the "viral Kumbh Mela star", shot to nation-wide fame during the Maha Kumbh celebrations last year, after videos of her selling rudraksha garlands at the mela circulated widely on social media.

In March 2026, the girl, who was in Kerala for a film-shooting, sought the help of local police, alleging that her family was opposing her marriage to Farmaan. She later married Farmaan.

Subsequently, her father filed a complaint before the Madhya Pradesh police station accusing Farmaan of abducting her. The couple moved the Kerala High Court seeking interim bail and the Court had granted Farmaan 1-month transit bail so as to enable him to approach the courts in MP for bail.

Meanwhile, the Couple had also approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court, alleging that Monalisa's birth certificate was forged to criminalise their interfaith marriage.

The Kerala High Court, last week had refused to extend the transit anticipatory bail granted to Mohammed Farmaan, following the rejection of his anticipatory bail application by the jurisdictional POCSO Court, Madleshway (MP).

    Case No: WP(C) No. 21065 of 2026

Case Title: Monalisa v. State of Kerala and Anr.

Counsel for Petitioner: P.S. Anishad, Limna Bhaskaran, Sreeparvathi G.V., Samuel Sabu, K.K. Preetha, Siya Ummer
