    The Central Government on Monday (June 1) notified the appointment of Justice Vivek Rusia as Acting Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court upon the elevation of Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva to the Supreme Court of India.

    The appointment was made in exercise of powers under Article 223 of the Constitution of India. The said notification was issued by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice, reads;

    "In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Vivek Rusia, Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh consequent upon appointment of Shri Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India".

    Justice Vivek Rusia was born in 1969 in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh and is the son of Senior Advocate, late Prabhakar Rusia. After completing his degree in BSc and LLB, he was enrolled as an advocate in 1992. He began his practice by working under Senior Advocates Late P Sadashivan Nair and Indira Nair. He also worked under Rajendra Menon, who later became the Chief Justice of Delhi and Patna High Courts.

    In 1998, Justice Rusia established his independent practice before the MP High Court and developed expertise across civil, criminal, constitutional, service, revenue, and taxation matters. He further served as an advocate for Coal India, MP Poorv Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Ltd, MP Power Generating Co. Ltd and many others.

    He further served a three-year tenure as Standing Counsel for the Government of India, representing the Union. Justice Rusia was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court in 2016, followed by his appointment as a Permanent Judge on March 17, 2018.
