The father of a lady advocate has approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court seeking a CBI probe into her alleged unnatural death within three months of marriage, allegedly due to dowry harassment.
The matter is currently before the Registrar and will be listed before a bench in Jabalpur soon.
According to the petition, the deceased got married on March 2, 2025, in Tamil Nadu, following Hindu customs and rites. The petition stated that the husband's family made repeated dowry demands, which were allegedly fulfilled by the bride's family, including 100 tolas of gold jewellery, a diamond necklace worth ₹20 Lakhs, household articles, furniture and electronic appliances. Despite this, the petitioner stated that his daughter continued to face harassment and pressure for additional dowry.
The petition further states that on June 9, 2025, he visited his daughter's matrimonial home, where he was informed by his son-in-law that she had fallen in the bathroom around 9:30 pm while washing her face. However, the petitioner raised serious doubts over this version of events, alleging that despite being a doctor himself, his son-in-law did not immediately take her to a hospital.
The petition claims that she was admitted to the Military Hospital at 12:30 am, with an unexplained delay of over three hours. She died on June 10, 2025, and the post-mortem report showed a sub-scalp contusion over the left frontal region and a subdural haemorrhage over the left occipital region.
Despite these findings, the petition states, the death was attributed to cardiac arrest in the Military Hospital report.
Following her death, the petitioner submitted a written complaint to the Jabalpur Station House Officer, but no effective action was taken, it is claimed. He subsequently approached the Superintendent, but no meaningful progress was made, the plea adds.
The petitioner also filed an RTI application seeking medical records from the hospital, which were allegedly rejected on the grounds that he was not the "next of kin" of the deceased.
Aggrieved, the petitioner claims he filed a private complaint before the Judicial Magistrate First Class but the same was rejected. Thereafter, he filed a criminal revision before the Sessions Court, which is stated to be pending without substantial progress.
In this background, the petitioner has approached the High Court seeking directions for a CBI investigation into his daughter's 'unnatural death' within three months of her wedding. In his interim prayer, he has sought access to the deceased's medical reports from the Military Hospital.
