Savukku Shankar Moves Madras High Court For Bail In Attempt To Murder Case, Alleges False Implication By TN Police

YouTuber-journalist A Shankar alias Savukku Shankar, has approached the Madras High Court seeking bail in connection with an attempt to murder case registered against him by the state police. When the matter came up before the vacation court on Wednesday (April 6), Justice Victoria Gowri directed the respondent, Inspector of Police at Puzhal Police Station, to file a reply within a day and said that the bail petition would be heard and disposed of on Thursday (April 7). It may be noted that in 2025, a case had been registered against Shankar for allegedly extorting money from a film producer. Though Shankar was arrested on December 13, 2025, he was later let out on interim bail by the High Court. Shankar's mother had filed petitions challenging his solitary confinement in prison and another plea seeking specialised medical treatment for him in prison. These petitions were later closed by the High Court, after taking note of a report of the Medical Board indicating that no immediate specialised treatment was required at present. The court had thus opined that the earlier relief of interim bail, which was granted on medical grounds, did not warrant any further continuation. On March 25, the interim bail expired. Following this, when Shankar refused to surrender, he was arrested on April 8 in Ongole, Andhra Pradesh. As per the prosecution's case with respect to the present crime, while Shankar was being taken to the Puzhal Police station after his arrest, the vehicle was stopped midway to allow him to urinate. At that time, some men came in another car and started a quarrel with the Sub-Inspector of Police, abusing him in filthy language, and pelted stones at him. It was argued that Shankar also pelted stones against the officer and caused panic among the public. Thus, another case was registered against Shankar and men for offences under Sections 296(b), 125, 132, 109(1), and 351(3) of the BNS. In his plea, Shankar argued that no such occurrence had taken place and a false story was being cooked up against him. He submitted that he was arrested when he came back to Ongole after visiting his ill mother in Bangalore, and while he was in custody, the present case had been foisted against him with an ulterior motive to detain him as a Goonda under the Tamil Nadu Goondas Act. Shankar pointed out certain contradictions in the case put forward by the prosecution with respect to the statement given by the hotel manager and argued that the double standard versions involving the same person would clearly establish that the prosecution's story was false, fabricated and invented with the sole purpose of implicating him in multiple cases. Though a bail petition was filed by Shankar in the Principal District and Sessions Court in Tiruvallur, the same was rejected by the judge, taking note of the seriousness of the offence, the pending stage of investigation, 48 previous criminal cases that were pending against Shankar and his previous detention. Shankar thus moved the High Court for grant of bail and assured that he would abide by any conditions imposed by the court.
