P&H High Court Chief Justice Nominates Retired Justice Jaishree Thakur And Sr Advocate Gursharan Kaur Mann As State Bar Council Members

The Punjab & Haryana High Court has nominated retired Justice Jaishree Thakur and Senior Advocate Gursharan Kaur Mann as members of the Bar Council of Punjab & Haryana.
The Registrar General issued a memorandum notifying the co-option/nomination of two members, in compliance with directions issued by the Supreme Court in Yogamaya M.G. v. Union of India and others, Writ Petition (Civil) No. 581 of 2024.
The Supreme Court had directed that the two women members to be co-opted to State Bar Councils shall be nominated by the HC Chief Justices from among former women High Court judges or senior women members with a fair standing at the Bar.
Thereafter, another direction was made, asking the High Court Chief Justices to to complete the co-option of two women members to State Bar Councils within two weeks.
The memorandum, addressed to the Bar Council Chairman states that pursuant to the Supreme Court's order, and following an order passed by Chief Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra in consultation with the elected members of the Bar Council, the following members have been co-opted/nominated to the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana:
"Hon'ble Ms. Justice Jaishree Thakur, Former Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court
Mrs. Gursharan Kaur Mann, Senior Advocate."
