Mother Of IAS Officer Shot Dead In Chandigarh Court Moves High Court Seeking Police Protection

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed a one Kuldeep Singh, who allegedly “hand in glove” with the accused in the Chandigarh Court firing case to remain present in the police station tomorrow.The development comes in a protection plea filed by the mother of Harpreet K. Singh, an IAS officer who was shot dead in the harrowing incident on August 3. The shots were allegedly fired by his father-in-law, retired Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of the Punjab Police Malvinder Singh Sidhu, during a mediation proceeding, in connivance with the deceased's uncle Kuldeep Singh.Justice Anoop Chitkara while directing the UT counsel to get instructions, asked Kuldeep "to remain present in the Police Station, Sector-36, Chandigarh tomorrow at 8.00 A.M."Kuldeep was earlier booked in corruption and cheating case and the High Court had granted him the interim-bail, noting that he wants to demonstrate his honesty by filing an affidavit.The IAS officer's mother submitted that Kuldeep Singh was hand in glove with accused Sidhu and was also present in the Court when the he allegedly fired his son. She apprehended serious threat to her life and liberty and to her family at the hands of Kuldeep Singh.The counsel appearing for Kuldeep Singh submitted that the allegations are false and that he was not present in the concerned court complex throughout the day.After hearing the submissions, the Court said, "Without investigating the threat perception, in the larger interest of security to the mother of the deceased and her family. the following order is being passed...Petitioner is directed to remain present in the Police Station. sector-36 Chandigarh tomorrow at 8.00 A.M."The judge further added that if Kuldeep fails to appear before the police station tomorrow, the interim bail granted in the corruption case will be cancelled."If the Investigator intends to arrest the petitioner in FiR registered under section 103(2) of BNS, this order shall nor come in their way. It is clarified that this order is passed only to ensure the security of people and it is clarified that this order does not restrict the Investigator to proceed to investigate the FIR under Section 103(2) of BNS, 2023 at Police Station Sector-36.
