Rajasthan High Court Lawyers Abstain From Work Over Working Saturdays, Bar Bodies To Meet Acting Chief Justice Tomorrow

Lawyers at the Rajasthan High Court, Jodhpur abstained from work on Monday (January 5) to protest against High Court's decision declaring the second Saturday of every month as a working day.A press release issued by the Rajasthan High Court Advocates Association, Jodhpur and Rajasthan High Court Lawyers Association, Jodhpur states that in a joint meeting held on January 3 a resolution was passed to protest against the decision of the Rajasthan High Court to declare the second Saturday of every month as a working day in 2026 and the operation of night courts in the judicial district. As a result on Monday the advocates voluntarily abstained from appearing in the Rajasthan High Court, Jodhpur and all subordinate courts, the press release states. It further states that a delegation from the Rajasthan High Court Advocates Association, Jodhpur, and the Rajasthan High Court Lawyers Association, Jodhpur, will meet and hold discussions with the Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma in Jaipur on January 6 (Tuesday) after which the future course of action will be decided.Earlier, the Rajasthan High Court Lawyers' Association (Jodhpur) and Rajasthan High Court Advocates' Association (Jodhpur) had made a representation, dated December 15, 2025, to the Acting Chief Justice condemning the decision of the bench to make Saturdays working. This comes in the background of the decision taken during a full-court meeting of the Rajasthan High Court during its West Zone Regional Conference in Jaisalmer, to the effect that the Court shall remain open on the first and third Saturdays of every month for speedy disposal of pending cases. It was stated in the letter to the Acting Chief Justice that such decision was “arbitrary, authoritarian and completely insensitive to the realities faced by advocates”, since it was taken without any consultation with the bar which reflected a dictatorial approach of the bench.
