    Justice Alok Kumar Verma has tendered his resignation as a Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court with effect from April 30, 2026.

    Regarding this development, a PIB press release reads thus:

    "Vide Notification of even number dated 27.05.2026, Shri Justice Alok Kumar Verma has tendered his resignation from the office of Judge, Uttarakhand High Court, in pursuance of proviso (a) to clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution, with effect from 30.04.2026."

    For context, Proviso (a) to clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution states that a sitting High Court Judge may, by writing under his hand addressed to the President, resign from his office.

    Born on August 16, 1964, in District Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, Justice Verma graduated from D.A.V. (P.G.) Degree College, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

    He did his LLB from Harish Chandra Postgraduate College in the year 1985 and joined the Judicial Service of the 1982 batch in Uttar Pradesh in the year 1987 and was posted at Jhansi as Munsif [Civil Judge (Junior Division)].

    He was posted in various Districts in the State of Uttar Pradesh. Later, he opted for Judicial Service in the State of Uttaranchal (now Uttarakhand) after the creation of the State on 09.11.2000.

    In the State of Uttarakhand, he remained posted as District Judge at Tehri Garhwal, Chamoli, Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun. He also served as the Principal Secretary, Law-cum-L.R. to the Government of Uttarakhand.

    In May 2019, he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court and took the oath of office on 27th May, 2019.
