    The Centre for Research in Environmental Law (CREL), Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur, in collaboration with the Centre for Environment, Sustainability and Climate Justice (CESCJ), Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), and the Centre for Research on Maritime Environment (CRME), Gujarat Maritime University (GMU), is organising the 1st National Article Writing Competition, 2026.

    The competition seeks to foster legal scholarship and interdisciplinary research on contemporary environmental, sustainability, and climate justice issues. It aims to provide a platform for students, researchers, academicians, and professionals to engage with pressing environmental challenges through innovative legal analysis.

    About the Competition

    The competition invites original and unpublished articles that critically examine emerging issues at the intersection of environmental law, sustainability, climate governance, and public policy. Participants are encouraged to adopt interdisciplinary perspectives and contribute meaningful solutions to contemporary environmental concerns.

    Competition Themes

    Participants may submit an article on any one of the following themes:

    1. ESG Fraud and Greenwashing: Rethinking Corporate Accountability
    2. Climate Surveillance and Data Colonialism: Power and Technology in the Global South
    3. Rights of Indigenous Communities: Legal Protection of Traditional Knowledge in Climate Governance
    4. Ecocide as the Fifth International Crime: Expanding the Jurisdiction of the ICC
    5. Investor-State Arbitration vs Environmental Regulation: Rebalancing Sovereignty
    6. Airspace Pollution: The Regulatory Vacuum in Atmospheric Environmental Law
    7. Geopolitical Fragmentation: A Global South Perspective on International Environmental Law
    8. Sustainable Finance and Banking Regulation: Aligning Capital Flows with Climate Commitments
    9. Sustainable Development vs Energy Security: Legal Tensions in a Climate Crisis

    Eligibility

    The competition is open to students, researchers, academicians, legal professionals, and all individuals interested in environmental law and related disciplines.

    Submission Guidelines

    • Submissions must be original and unpublished.
    • Co-authorship is permitted for up to two authors.
    • Articles must not exceed 3,000 words, excluding footnotes.
    • An abstract of not more than 250 words must accompany the submission.
    • Citations must follow either the Bluebook or ILI Citation Style.
    • The manuscript should be submitted in .doc or .docx format.

    Registration Fee

    General Category

    • Single Author: ₹350
    • Co-authorship: ₹600

    Students of DNLU, GNLU and GMU

    • Single Author: ₹250
    • Co-authorship: ₹400

    Prizes and Benefits

    The competition carries a total prize pool of ₹45,000.

    • First Prize: ₹21,000
    • Second Prize: ₹15,000
    • Third Prize: ₹9,000
