    The Centre for Advanced Research on Corporate and Insolvency Laws (CARCIL), Chanakya National Law University, Patna, in collaboration with Luthra and Luthra Law Offices India, is inviting submissions for its National Annual Essay Writing Competition on the theme “Online Gaming Laws.”

    About the Competition

    The National Annual Essay Writing Competition is being organised in fond memory of Late Mayank Raj, a student of LL.M. (Corporate Law) Batch of 2026, to honour his academic legacy and interest in interdisciplinary legal research. The competition seeks to provide a platform for students to engage with contemporary legal and policy challenges emerging from the rapidly growing online gaming industry.

    The competition invites participants to critically examine the evolving legal landscape of online gaming in India, including issues relating to regulation, taxation, consumer protection, data privacy, and emerging technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence.

    Scope

    Participants may submit analytical and research-oriented essays on topics including, but not limited to:

    • Regulatory frameworks and constitutional issues in online gaming
    • Taxation of online gaming and implications of GST
    • Virtual digital assets, NFTs, and blockchain-based gaming
    • Consumer protection and responsible gaming practices
    • Data privacy and platform governance
    • Corporate governance and investment trends in the gaming industry

    Note: The above themes are illustrative and not exhaustive.

    Eligibility

    The competition is open to students enrolled in:

    • Undergraduate law programmes (3-year LL.B. / 5-year integrated LL.B.)
    • Postgraduate law programmes (LL.M.)

    Participants must be enrolled in a recognised institution in India.

    Authorship

    Co-authorship of up to two authors is permitted.

    Submission Guidelines

    • Word Limit: 1500–2000 words
    • Font: Times New Roman, Size 12
    • Line Spacing: 1.5
    • Alignment: Justified
    • Referencing: Hyperlinking of sources is mandatory; endnotes may be used where necessary
    • File Format: Submissions must be made in both .doc/.docx and PDF format
    • Anonymity: The author's identity must not be disclosed in the manuscript

    Originality

    Submissions must be original and unpublished. Plagiarism beyond 15% will lead to disqualification. Submissions generated entirely through AI tools are not permitted.

    Review Process

    All submissions will undergo a blind peer-review process by the Editorial Board. Essays will be evaluated based on legal research, originality, clarity, structure, and policy relevance. The decision of the panel shall be final.

    Prizes

    • First Prize: ₹10,000 + Internship opportunity with Luthra and Luthra Law Offices India*
    • Second Prize: ₹7,500
    • Third Prize: ₹5,000

    The top 10 essays will be published on the CARCIL website.
