The VITSOL Debate Society of VIT School of Law presents RATIO ET ORATIO, NATIONAL LEVEL LEGAL DEBATE COMPETITION, 2026. It is a premier undergraduate competition designed to cultivate rigorous argumentation, reasoned dialogue and ethical persuasion. The tournament adopts an innovative debating format, an evolution of classical Mace-style of debating infused with structural clarity, analytical depth and competitive fairness.
It consists of uninterrupted speeches, a silent reflection window, structured rebuttals and a joint team synthesis. The aim is to promote clarity, reasoned persuasion, and collaborative closing analysis. Each debate features two teams, each with two speakers. The sides are: Proposition (For the Motion) and Opposition (Against the Motion). No interjections, Point of Information's (POIs), crossfires, or judge involvement occur during speaking time.
The competition is open to all law students who are currently enrolled in undergraduate LL. B courses (5-year or 3-year LL. B) in colleges/universities affiliated with the Bar Council of India.
A registration fee of Rs.3000/- (plus 18% GST) per team must be paid after the confirmation of participation. The registration fee shall be non-refundable. A 50% concession on the fee is available for the Government law Colleges affiliated to Central and State Universities.
Cash Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the Champion Team, First Runner Up Team, Best Speaker and the Second-Best Speaker. A cash prize will also be awarded to the best 'Novice Speaker' – a first-year student securing the highest score. The competition presents a total prize pool of. Rs. 70,000

Registration Process
· Each team shall consist of two members/speakers. Multiple teams from the same institution are permitted. Cross-institution teams are strictly prohibited.
· All participants must complete their provisional registration on or before 7th March, 2026.
· The provisional registration shall be done by filling out the google form: https://forms.gle/peL9dZnJUB4NuzGB8
· Upon the confirmation of provisional registration and subsequent payment, the details of the final registration shall be communicated via mail.
· A registration fee of ₹3,000 Plus 18% GST per team shall be paid at the time of final registration. The registration fee is non-refundable. A 50% concession on the fee is available for the Government law Colleges affiliated to Central and State Universities.
· Registration shall be considered confirmed only upon successful payment of the registration fee. Late or incomplete registrations shall not be accepted.
· The details submitted at the time of provisional registration shall be final. The right to confirmation of the participation is reserved to the organizers of the event.
