    ADVOCACY CARNIVAL is an annual fest conducted by the Legal Zems.

    AIM & PURPOSE

    These competitions collectively contribute to the holistic development of participants, fostering a passion for legal scholarship, analytical thinking, and a nuanced understanding of the legal landscape.

    ABOUT EVENT

    This national law fest includes four events:

    National Article Writing Competition 2024.

    National Case Commentary Competition 2024.

    National Virtual Quiz on Legal Maxim 2024.

    National Memorial Drafting Competition 2024.

    IMPORTANT DATES

    Last date to register in Fest: 20.02.2024

    Virtual National Olympiad on Legal Maxim: 05.03.2024.

    Article, Case Commentary & Memorial Submission Date: 05.03.2024

    Result Declaration: 15.03.2024.

    ELIGIBILITY

    Any student who is pursuing a five-year or three-year course, post-graduation, P.H.D of law from any recognized university will be eligible.

    RULES AND REGULATIONS

    NATIONAL OLYMPIAD ON LEGAL MAXIM

    A. This Olympiad shall be based on LEGAL MAXIM'S.

    B. This Olympiad shall take place online.

    C. It shall include multiple choice questions.

    D. The participants can participate from their home or hostel with the use of a laptop or a mobile phone along with network connectivity.

    E. The Olympiad shall be comprises of total 100 questions to be attempted in 45 minutes. There shall be No Negative Marking.

    G. Each Question shall carry 1 mark each.

    H. Only those participants will be given a certificate who appears and submit the response within the stipulated time.

    I. The results declared would be final and the authority vests with Legal Zems.

    K. Legal Zems shall not be responsible for any technical issue from the participants end.

    M. Organizers reserves the right to alter/change the rules/ or procedure of the competition if need so arises.  

    N. Inappropriate behavior shall lead to disqualification from the event. 

    NATIONAL ARTICLE WRITING COMPETITION 2024

    1) The topic of the Competition is “Criminal Law & Technology: Balancing privacy & securities”.

    2) Participants shall submit the article on 05.03.2024 on or before (12.00 A.M).Submission after stipulated time shall lead to disqualification.

    3) The Article shall be written on the given topic in about 2000-2500 words.

    4) The article should be the original work of the author.

    5) Co-authorship will be allowed.

    6) Participants shall submit the article in the PDF format only.

    7) Article shall be submitted via E-mail “OFFICE@LEGALZEMS.COM” with subject “SUBMISSION OF ARTICLE”.

    8) The formatting guidelines shall be followed:

    A. Font Size – 12 point

    B. Font – TIMES NEW ROMAN

    C. Spacing – 1.15

    D. Text & Alignment – Justified

    E. PLAGRISIM: 25% only.

    9) Marking criteria shall be based on quality, language, content, and uniqueness.

    10) The result shall be binding by the Legal Zems.

    12) Organizers reserves the right to alter/change the rules/ or procedure of the competition if need so arises.

    14) Inappropriate behavior shall lead to disqualification from the event.

    15) Submission must be in English Language only.

    NATIONAL CASE COMMENTARY COMPETITION

    CASE: NAVTEZ SINGH JOHAR VERSUS UNION OF INDIA

    The case comment should preferably include the following elements: Synopsis, background, facts of the case, issues, contentions, findings, reasoning, disposition, critical analysis, and conclusion.

    1. The submission must be original. 

    2. Submission must be in English Language only.

    3. It should be submitted in PDF format only.

    4. Word Limit: 1200-2400 words excluding citations.

    5. Plagiarism limit: 25%. 

    6. Co-authorship is permitted (Max. 2 Authors)

    7. Formatting Details:

    (a) Font: Times New Roman

    (b) Title: Font Size - 14, Bold, Underlined, Capital

    (c) Headings: Font Size - 14, Bold, Capital

    (d) Content: Font Size - 12

    (e) Alignment: Justified

    (f) Line Spacing: 1.5

    8. All submissions shall be made to OFFICE@LEGALZEMS.COM with a subject – “Submission: National Case Comment Writing Competition”.

    9) The result shall be binding by the Legal Zems.

    11) Inappropriate behavior shall lead to disqualification from the event.

    Marks shall be allotted based on:

    1. Understanding of the Facts of the Case

    2. Interpretation

    3. Analysis and Conclusion

    4. Presentation and Creativity

    5. Compliance & Strict Adherence to formatting and submission guidelines

    NATIONAL MEMORIAL DRAFTING COMPETITION 2024

    The following requirements for memorials must be strictly followed. Non-conformities will be penalized.

    (i) All teams must submit Memorial/ Written Submission for only 'one side'. The side shall be determined by the organisers on a random basis upon the successful registration for the competition.

    (ii) The Memorials must include all the following specifications;

    (a) Cover Page

    (b) Table of Contents

    (c) List of Abbreviations

    (d) Index of Authorities

    (e) Statement of Jurisdiction

    (f) Statement of Facts

    (g) Issues Raised

    (h) Summary of Arguments

    (i) Arguments Advanced

    (j) Prayer

    (k) Annexures, if any (not mandatory)

    (iii) The memorial shall not be of more than forty (40) pages and the Arguments shall not exceed more than twenty-five (25) pages.

    (iv) The Memorial shall be typed on A4 size page in Font type: Times New Roman,

    Font size: 12, 1.5-line spacing & 1-inch margin on each side. For footnotes, the font size shall be 10 with 1.0 line spacing.

    (v) Blue Book (20th Edition) pattern shall be strictly followed. The citation format shall be uniform throughout the memorial.

    (vi) The Cover Page of the Memorial must follow the following colour scheme, Blue for the Petitioner Cover Page and Red for the Respondent Cover Page.

    (vii) The Team Code allotted to a team must be mentioned on the upper right corner of the Cover Page of the Memorial.

    (viii) The Cover Page must consist of the followings:

    i. Team Code

    ii. Name of the Court/Forum

    iii. Jurisdiction

    iv. Cause Title

    v. Party on whose behalf the memorial is filed

    (ix) The participants are required to mention only those abbreviations which are used in the memorial. If any abbreviation found in the 'List of Abbreviations' but not used in the memorial, will attract a negative mark of 1 at a time. The participants must void citing 'passim' authorities and the 'Index of Authorities' must reflect the page of memorial where any authority is cited.

    (x) The Memorial may consist of an annexure, if needed but must not contain any Photographs/ Sketches/ Exhibits/ Affidavits etc.

    (xi) Soft Copies of the memorial in PDF format must be mailed to “OFFICE@LEGALZEMS.COM” with the subject “Memorial Submission by Team Code _____” (For example: Memorial Submission by Team Code LC-01) on or before 05.03.2024 (11:59 PM).

    (xii) Late submission of memorial shall attract a negative evaluation of 2 marks for every one-hour delay. Any submission made after 06:00 AM on 06.03.2024 shall be disqualified forthwith.

    (xiii) Mention of identification of any type in the memorial shall lead to immediate disqualification.

    (xiv) The result shall be binding by the Legal Zems.

    (xv) Organizers reserves the right to alter/change the rules/ or procedure of the competition if need so arises.

    (xvi) Inappropriate behavior shall lead to disqualification from the event.

    MARKING CRITERIA FOR MEMORIALS

    (i) The following shall be the criteria for marking the memorials:

    1. Accuracy in identifying the relevant issues- 20 Marks

    2. Knowledge of Facts- 10 Marks

    3. Knowledge of Law- 10 Marks

    4. Proper and Articulate Analysis- 10 Marks

    5. Evidence of Original Thought- 10 Marks

    6. Grammar and Style- 10 Marks

    7. Correct Format and Citation- 10 Marks

    8. Extent and Use of Research- 10 Marks

    9. Clarity and Organization- 10 Marks

    TOTAL- 100 Marks
