  • RGNUL Students Win Laurels And Qualify For FDI International Arbitration Moot 2022

    Team comprising of Jubin Malawat, Bhavya Kala, Rachit Somani, Harshit Bhimrajika and Rohan Gajendra Pratap Singh, BA.LL.B (Hons.) 4th year, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab, was adjudged Runners-up of the South Asian Regional Rounds of the Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot, 2022 organized by the Center for International Legal Studies held online from 26th to 28th August 2022. The team will represent RGNUL at the World Rounds of the FDI International Arbitration Moot, 2022 scheduled to be held at King's College, London.

    26 teams across the South Asian Region and the top four teams qualified to the FDI Global Rounds (In-Person) scheduled to be held at King's College, London in the first week of November 2022. The other three teams to have qualified to the globals include Lloyd law College, NLIU Bhopal and MNLU Nagpur. Lloyd Law College as Claimant and RGNUL, Punjab as the Respondent vied for the top positions.

    The moot problem centred on cannabis sector investment in a host state which was devastated due to armed conflict and civil war within the country. This included an investor-State arbitration under the ICSID Convention and raised issues of Res Judicata, Exhaustion of Local Remedies (ELR), Full Protection and Security (FPS), Extended War Clause and Moral Damages.

    Another team comprising of Xenia Dhar, Samiksha Agarwal and Muskan Garg ( 3rd year) was Quarter-Finalists in Jurisprudence 2022 National Space law moot organized by Quantum University, Roorkee, from 25th to 27th August 2022. Muskan Garg won the Best Researcher Award.

    Prof G.S. Bajpai, Vice-Chancellor, RGNUL, Punjab extolled the extraordinary efforts of the teams. Prof Anand Pawar, Registrar, congratulated the winners.
