RGNUL Punjab Announces 2nd National Intellectual Property Law Moot Court Competition, 2026

The Centre for Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (CIIPR), Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, is set to organise the 2nd National Intellectual Property Law Moot Court Competition, 2026, building upon the notable success of its inaugural edition. The competition seeks to create a rigorous academic–practical interface by simulating contemporary intellectual property litigation and courtroom advocacy.
Organising Institution
RGNUL, Punjab, is a premier national law university committed to excellence in legal education and research. CIIPR functions as a specialised centre dedicated to research, training, and discourse in Intellectual Property and Innovation Law through academic and professional engagement.
Objective of the Competition
The moot court aims to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application of Intellectual Property Law. It tests participants on substantive IP law, procedural strategy, legal research, and oral advocacy, thereby preparing law students for the evolving challenges of real-world IP disputes.
Eligibility and Team Composition
Each participating team shall consist of two members only. Teams are required to prepare written memorials for both sides of the dispute, strictly in accordance with the official rules and guidelines.
Structure of the Competition
The competition will be conducted in multiple stages:
- Memorial Qualifier Round:
Written submissions will be evaluated by academicians and subject-matter experts. The top 16 teams based on memorial scores will qualify for the oral rounds. - Preliminary Rounds:
Each qualifying team will argue once on each side across two preliminary rounds. The top 4 teams will advance to the semi-finals. - Semi-Finals and Finals:
Conducted on a knock-out basis, culminating in the final round to determine the winner.
Tentative Schedule
- Release of Moot Proposition & Guidelines: 20 January 2026
- Last Date of Registration: 5 February 2026
- Memorial Submission: 20 February 2026
- Results of Memorial Qualifier Rounds: 25 February 2026
- Oral Rounds (Offline): 9–10 March 2026
- Valedictory Ceremony: 10 March 2026
Registration Details
- Registration Fee:
₹1500 per team (Early Bird till 27 January 2026)
₹2000 per team thereafter
(Both Exclusive of GST) - Registration will close on 5 February 2026.
- Fees for advanced rounds will be communicated to qualifying teams separately.
Awards and Opportunities
- Winner: ₹12,000
- Runner-up: ₹8,000
- Best Memorial: ₹5,000
- Best Speaker: ₹5,000
In addition, internship opportunities will be offered to top-performing teams.
