The Centre for Law and Indigenous Studies, Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, released the first volume of Koitur: People of Nature, an annual magazine that examines Indigenous life and culture through interdisciplinary and legal perspectives.

The magazine was released by Justice S. Ravindra Bhat, Former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Member of the General Council, HNLU on 26th January during the 5th Dr Ambedkar Memorial Lecture.

Conceived within a premier law school, Koitur: People of Nature goes beyond cultural documentation to engage with Indigenous issues through constitutional, legal, and policy frameworks. The magazine brings together academic research, field-based narratives, and community voices to explore themes such as customary laws, forest rights, land governance, self-rule, access to justice, and the interface between Indigenous knowledge systems and modern legal institutions.

The publication also reflects the pedagogical commitment of the law school to socially engaged legal education, encouraging students and scholars to critically examine law's role in protecting Indigenous identities, cultures, and rights. By integrating legal analysis with cultural and ecological perspectives, Koitur seeks to foster informed discourse on Indigenous justice, sustainability, and inclusive development.

As a distinctive academic initiative, Koitur: People of Nature aspires to serve as a bridge between academia, Indigenous communities, and policy discourse, contributing meaningfully to Indigenous studies and rights-based scholarship.

The release function had Prof V.C.Vivekanandan, Vice Chancellor of HNLU, Dr. Ayan Hazra, Editor of Koitur and Head of the Centre for Law and Indigenous Studies and Dr. Deepak Srivastava, Registrar in Charge attended by faculty and students.
