IFIM Law School, Bengaluru, hosted a national seminar on 'Deliberations on Consumer Laws: Issues and Challenges in the Global Market' at their Electronic City Campus. As many as 73 participants from all across India participated in the seminar, who presented their research papers during various technical sessions.

The event was inaugurated by Justice N Kumar, former Judge, High Court of Karnataka; Dr. R. Venkata Rao, Vice Chancellor, NLSIU, Bangalore; and Arnaud Raynouard, Professor of Law, University Paris Dauphine, France.

Dr. R. Venkata Rao expressed his views on the influence of digital technologies and services on consumer protection. "Digital products and services, which make life convenient, tend to expose a consumer to the issue of security and privacy. Data fed into the digital medium is not only collected and analysed but also transmitted to other networks without the knowledge and consent of the consumers. Consumerism with respect to the issues involved in a digital market is what we need. With the availability of Smart Products in the market, we should also make the consumers SMART", he said.

Dr. Avinash Dadhich, Principal and Associate Dean at IFIM Law School, stressed on the need for young lawyers to use technology smartly in their career paths. "Technology, today, is an inevitable element in each life. However, as representatives of Law, young students need to be a step ahead in channeling new age technology more responsibily to the society," he said.

The inauguration session discussed the views ranging from proper implementation of Consumer Protection Act, 1986, to the European Union Consumer Law and had put up light on the use of technology, used in e-commerce, which has made trade easy but has also brought up complication of litigation involved in e-commerce disputes.
