IPAC, Law Centre–I, Faculty of Law, Delhi University Hosts Mentoring Session On Interview Skills

The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by an address by the Student Convenor of IPAC, who outlined the vision, objectives, and ongoing initiatives of the Committee in facilitating internship and placement opportunities for students. The Teacher Convenor then delivered the formal inaugural address, highlighting the importance of such mentoring initiatives in shaping students' professional journeys. The occasion also marked the release of the Committee's Recruitment Brochure, showcasing its efforts and achievements.

The session was led by Dr. Vijender Chauhan, who engaged students through a practical and mentoring-oriented approach. Drawing from real-life experiences and relatable examples, he emphasized focusing on aspects within one's control, such as preparation, clarity of thought, and composure, rather than external uncertainties. He also highlighted the importance of being mindful of the inherent power gap in interview settings and structuring communication accordingly, balancing confidence with respect and clarity with brevity.

Dr. Chauhan underscored the role of self-awareness as the foundation of a successful interview, encouraging students to understand their academic journey, choices, strengths, and areas of improvement instead of relying on rehearsed responses. He noted that authenticity plays a crucial role in leaving a lasting impression and that interviewers assess not only what candidates say but also how effectively they connect past experiences with future aspirations.

He further discussed handling difficult or unexpected questions, advising students to remain calm and composed and to use pauses effectively to demonstrate thoughtfulness. He explained the importance of structuring responses logically, ensuring relevance and conciseness while maintaining depth. He also cautioned against overconfidence and verbosity, emphasizing precision and clarity.

The session also focused on non-verbal communication and first impressions. Dr. Chauhan elaborated on the significance of posture, eye contact, facial expressions, and tone of voice in shaping a candidate's professional presence, noting that these cues influence the interviewer's perception even before verbal interaction begins. He encouraged students to engage in mock interviews and self-evaluation to refine these aspects.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where students raised queries which were addressed with practical insights by Dr. Chauhan. The event ended with a formal vote of thanks delivered by the Student Co-Convenor, expressing gratitude to the speaker, faculty, and participants. The session was described as a comprehensive learning experience, helping students become better prepared and more confident for real-world interview scenarios.
