The workshop is being organised by the DPIIT-IPR Chair, NLIU Bhopal, established by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, under the Scheme for Pedagogy and Research in IPRs for Holistic Education and Academia (SPRIHA). The Chair promotes excellence in Intellectual Property education, research, capacity building, policy discourse, and industry-academia collaboration while supporting the objectives of the National IPR Policy.

About the Course

India's Intellectual Property ecosystem has witnessed significant reforms through TRIPS-compliant legislation, the National IPR Policy, 2016, and flagship initiatives such as Startup India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. However, several challenges continue to exist in the areas of criminal enforcement, repeat and habitual infringement, sentencing standards, summary trials, compounding of IP offences, and effective adjudication. At the same time, emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), synthetic media, blockchain, and digital innovation are rapidly transforming the nature of Intellectual Property rights and enforcement.

This two-day national workshop aims to provide a platform for meaningful deliberation on these evolving issues by bringing together members of the judiciary, policymakers, legal practitioners, industry experts, academicians, researchers, and students. Through expert lectures and interactive discussions, the workshop seeks to identify legal and practical gaps in India's existing IP framework and explore measures for strengthening Intellectual Property law and enforcement.

The workshop will specifically focus on:

• Harmonising India's Intellectual Property framework with international obligations.
• Sentencing and deterrence for repeat and habitual IP offenders.
• Summary trials and compounding of IP offences.
• Intellectual Property and emerging technologies.
• Strengthening institutional and judicial capacity for effective IP enforcement.

The discussions are intended to culminate in practical policy recommendations for strengthening India's Intellectual Property ecosystem.
