21-Year Old Climate Activist Remanded To 5-Day Delhi Police Custody In Greta Thunberg 'Toolkit' Case

A Delhi Magistrate on Sunday remanded a 21-year-old climate activist Disha Ravi arrested from Bengaluru to 5-day custody of the Delhi police in a case registered over the "toolkit" shared by international activist Greta Thunberg related to the farmer's protest on social media Disha Ravi, one of the founders of 'Fridays For Future' campaign in India, arrested from her house located within Soladevanahalli police station limits in Bengaluru by a Special Cell of the Delhi Police on Saturday.In the court, Public Prosecutor alleged that Disha was part of a larger conspiracy against the country. Disha denied being part of any conspiracy, and that she doesn't know any such group. "I was just supporting farmers," she said, as she broke down, "I supported farmers because they are our future and we all need to eat." She added that she didn't create the toolkit, and just made two edits to it, reported The NewsMinute. The Fridays For Future movement reportedly began in August 2018, after 15-year-old Greta Thunberg and other young activists sat in front of the Swedish parliament every school day for three weeks, to protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis, according to the website. The group comprises college students and young working professionals who are working towards highlighting the climate crisis and demanding leaders to find solutions.Watch | 21-year-old climate activist Disha Ravi sent to 5 day police custody in Greta Thunberg "toolkit" case pic.twitter.com/48uaowdG51— NDTV (@ndtv) February 14, 2021 The Cyber Cell of the Delhi Police had lodged an FIR on February 4 against unnamed persons over the 'toolkit' shared in connection with coordination of farmers protests.The case against unnamed persons was registered on charges of criminal conspiracy, sedition and various other sections of the Indian Penal Code, the police said.Addressing a press conference earlier, a senior Delhi Police officer said initial investigation linked the document with a pro-Khalistan group named "Poetic Justice Foundation".According to the police, the "toolkit" has a particular section that mentions "digital strike through hashtags on or before January 26, tweet storms on January 23 onwards, physical action on January 26 and watch-out or join farmers march into Delhi and back to borders".The "toolkit" was aimed at spreading disaffection and ill-will against the government of India and creating disharmony among various social, religious and cultural groups, the police had added.(With PTI inputs)
