The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday disposed of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) plea concerning losses of crops of farmers due to the movement of wild boar and blue bull by noting that the Government is seized of the matter.

The bench of Justice Manoj Misra and Justice Vikas Budhwar noted that the Government is seized of the matter and is taking steps to minimize the losses, and hence, it was not necessary to monitor the matter at this stage.

Essentially, the PIL plea sought direction to the UP government to take effective and appropriate measures to control and minimize the losses of crops of farmers on account of the movement of wild boar and blue bull.

Pursuant to the Court’s order, instructions were received from the Divisional Director, Social Forestry, Deoria submitting that wild boar and blue bull are declared protected animals under the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972.

It is also stated that a committee headed by the District Magistrate has been constituted to monitor the movement and to assess the loss from wild boar and blue bull.

Lastly, it was also submitted that the meeting of the Committee takes place at regular intervals i.e., every three months where the situation is constantly reviewed.

Against this backdrop, noting that directions are sought in respect of the movement and control of protected animals whereas the Government is seized of the matter and is taking steps to minimize the losses, the Court disposed of the PIL plea by saying that it expects the State to be conscious of its responsibility and act accordingly.
