The Allahabad High Court's newly developed "Payment Setu Portal" facilitated the digital settlement of 18,661 traffic challans and collection of ₹83,38,525 during the National Lok Adalat held across Uttar Pradesh on September 12, 2026.

Developed in-house by the High Court, the portal was operationalised simultaneously in district courts across 74 districts of the State. The platform enables online payment of traffic challans through a dynamic QR code and UPI-based payment system.

The portal generates a unique QR code and payment link immediately after a court imposes a fine. The payment link is delivered to the registered mobile number of the litigant, who can complete the transaction through UPI. Upon successful payment, a digital receipt is automatically generated and sent to the user's mobile phone.

The initiative eliminates cash handling, manually written receipts and post-payment reconciliation processes. The challan, payment and receipt are digitally recorded from end to end, with each transaction carrying a verifiable trail, making the process entirely paperless.

Among the district courts, Gautam Buddha Nagar recorded the highest utilisation of the portal, settling 2,980 challans and collecting ₹10,42,973. Lucknow settled 1,198 challans, while Ballia settled 848 challans through the digital payment mechanism.

Citizens arriving for settlement of e-challans were assisted through e-Sewa Kendras and help desks established at district courts. Technical teams remained available throughout the day, while a Central Control Room functioning from the office of the Joint Registrar (J) (CPC) monitored operations and coordinated real-time troubleshooting through dedicated video conferencing facilities.

District Legal Services Authorities participated in disseminating information to litigants, while coordination with the Union Bank of India and police authorities ensured seamless integration of challan data, payments and receipt generation.

The High Court said the initiative advances a payment process that is cashless at the counter, paperless in record-keeping and capable of being completed within seconds on a citizen's mobile phone, while strengthening efficiency, transparency and technology-driven judicial administration in Uttar Pradesh's district judiciary.
