Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Waze, who investigated the Television Rating Point (TRP) Scam has filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Thane Sessions Court, in the suspicious death case of businessman Mansukh Hiran, whose explosives-laden car was found outside Antilia, the Ambani residence, in Mumbai.

Waze filed the plea under section 438 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) apprehending arrest under sections 302 (murder), 201(destruction of evidence), 34 (common intention) and 120b(criminal conspiracy).

After hearing arguments from Waze's lawyer Aarti Kalekar and APP Vivek Kadu, the sessions court refused to grant interim protection and posted the plea for hearing on March 19. The Investigating officer from the Anti-Terrorism Squad has been directed to reply to the ABA.

On February 25, an explosives-laden Scorpio was found near Antilia, industrialist Mukesh Ambani's house on Altamont Road in South Mumbai. The car contained 18 gelatine sticks (explosive) and a threat letter inside. Hiran, who owned the SUV, had claimed that it had been stolen a week earlier, but the case got murky when he was found dead in a creek in Thane on March 5.

Waze, with the Crime Investigations Unit, was initially investigating the case. However, after Hiran's wife accused him of involvement in her husband's suspicious death, was shunted out of the Mumbai Crime Branch on Wednesday. He was transferred to the Citizen Facilitation Centre (CFC) unit of Mumbai police.

Mansukh's wife claimed he was being pressurized to take responsibility for the car and that her husband had given the SUV to Waze in November, which the officer returned in the first week of February. Waze had vehemently denied this.

The explosives case is now being probed by the National Investigating Agency, while Masukh's murder is being probed by the Anti-Terrorism Squad.

    Who is Sachin Waze?

A known encounter specialist of the early 2000s, Waze, along with his team of four constables were suspended in 2003, after being accused in the custodial death of Parbhani based engineer - Khawja Yunus.

Yunus was a suspect in the 2002 Ghatkopar Blast. All those detained along with him were eventually acquitted. The trial in the case is still pending.

Waze then joined the Shiv Sena and was associated with the party till 2008. Soon after the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) came to power in 2019, Waze and the four constables were reinstated, after 17 years.

Yunus's mother has approached the Bombay High Court against their reinstatement
