The Uttarakhand High Court on Thursday sought a status report along with the case diary from the State Government with regard to the probe into the Ankita Bhandari Murder case. The details sought for by the Court have to be filed by the state on the next date of hearing on November 3.

Essentially, the bench of Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra issued this order on a plea moved before it by the Chief Editor of Jago Uttarakhand Weekly Newspaper Ashutosh Negi seeking a CBI probe into the Case. In the plea, it has been claimed that the BJP MLA Renu Bisht ordered the demolition of the resort (where Ankita Bhandari worked) so as to ensure the destruction of evidence related to the case.

For the uninitiated, 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari was allegedly killed by the owner of a resort Pulkit Arya, the son of a former BJP leader and his two associates as she had refused and resisted offering "extra services" to a VIP guest.

In fact, Ankita had been missing since 18-19 September, after which her search began. Subsequently, the three accused were arrested on September 23, and when questioned by the police, they allegedly confessed to the murder. On their pointing, her body was recovered from the Chilla canal in Uttarakhand's Rishikesh on September 24.

Arya and two other accused were arrested and they are presently in jail. Soon after the incident, the demolition action was carried out on the resort in the presence of Renu Bisht, the BJP MLA from Yamkeshwar. Accused Pulkit Arya's father Vinod Arya was expelled from the BJP soon after the murder came to light.
