    The Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa on Friday made an appeal to all members of the bar especially Senior Advocates, Solicitor Firms and other law firms to contribute to the Covid Relief Fund established by the Council for helping out advocates in need and junior advocates, clerks etc during the current pandemic.

    Importantly, the notice states that Rs.1.83 crore has been spent by the Council alone for distributing the kits of food materials amongst more than 11,000 advocates in need. Moreover, the Council has resolved to use Rs.4 crores from its Amalgamated Fund for various welfare schemes which includes distribution of kits, compensation of Rs.2.5 lakh to legal heirs of advocates who die due to Coronavirus, financial help for medical treatment of advocates who contracted the infection.

    However, the notice clarifies that the above help will be extended after getting an appropriate order from the Court and that work is in progress.

    Meanwhile, bank details for deposit to the Covid Relief Fund have also been given and the notice states-

    "All the Bar Councilors have contributed their own amounts in the said fund. Every guardian member has taken responsibility to collect the contribution from willing advocates in their area and deposit it in the said relief fund. Therefore, it is humble appeal to all the Advocates of Mumbai to consider this appeal as a help to protect the profession and particularly, the needy advocates, junior advocates, we make an appeal to contribute a substantial amount in the above relief fund. Unless and until we are all together and united and help each other financially, emotionally as well as professionally, it will be difficult to survive in this time."

    The aforesaid guardian members are- Adv VB Konde Deshmukh, Adv Subhash Ghatge, Adv Sudeep Pasbola, Adv Uday Warunjikar and Adv Avinash Avhad.
