Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has filed an interim application in the Bombay High Court seeking to be released on a bond for a day to cast his vote in the upcoming MLC elections in the State on Monday, June 20, 2022.

In the alternative, Deshmukh has sought permission to go to Vidhan Bhavan under escorts anytime between 9am-6pm and cast his vote.
The IA filed in his pending bail application was mentioned before Justice NJ Jamadar and is posted for hearing on Wednesday.
Only last week, the Special PMLA court refused permission to both NCP leaders, Deshmukh and cabinet minister Nawab Malik from being temporarily released to cast their vote in the Rajya Sabha Elections on June 10, 2022.
The judge observed that under section 62(5) of the Representation of Peoples Act, not only a convict but also an undertrial would be barred from voting.
While both of them appealed against the order in the HC, due to the paucity of time, Deshmukh's counsels did not mention his petition for hearing.
In Maharashtra, of the six seats, the BJP and the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) won three each.
According to the Enforcement Directorate's case, Deshmukh had misused his position as state home minister and collected Rs 4.70 crore from various bars in Mumbai through some police of officers. He was arrested in November 2021.
