    The Dharwad Bench of the Karnataka High Court Advocates' Association is organising an event 'Celebrating the Life' in memory of late Supreme Court Judge Justice Mohan Shantanagoudar this coming Saturday, May 21st at 10:30 am. 

    The event will be held at the Farmer's Knowledge Centre Auditorium in the University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. Justice Vineet Saran, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India is the Chief Guest.

    Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi, Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court will be presiding over the event. 

    Justice Shantanagoudar had passed away on April 24 last year, succumbing to prolonged illness. He was elevated as Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 17th February 2017 and had a term tell May 5, 2023. Before his elevation to the Supreme Court, Justice Shantanagoudar was the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court. He enrolled as an Advocate on 05.09.1980. He practised for one year at Dharwad in the Chambers of Sri I.G. Hiregoudar, Advocate before shifting practice to Bengaluru.

    He joined the Chambers of Sri Shivaraj V. Patil, Advocate (as he then was), who later adorned the Supreme Court of India. He started independent practice in the year 1984. Practised mainly in Civil, Criminal and Constitutional matters. He served as Vice-Chairman of Karnataka State Bar Council from 1991 to 1993 and as Chairman of Karnataka State Bar Council during 1995 and 1996. Served as State Public Prosecutor of Karnataka State from 1999 to 2002. He was appointed as Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court on 12.05.2003 and as Permanent Judge on 24.09.2004. On transfer, he was sworn in as Kerala High Court Judge.
