Chhattisgarh High Court Celebrates Constitution Day, Reaffirms Commitment To Democratic Ideals

The High Court of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday commemorated Constitution Day (Samvidhan Diwas) with a solemn ceremony at Unity Hall, reiterating the judiciary's unwavering commitment to constitutional values, justice and democratic governance. The event was held under the theme “Constitution Day 2025: Reaffirming Our Democratic Ideals.”The programme began with the National Anthem, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha. In his keynote address, the Chief Justice reflected on the vision and foresight of the framers of the Constitution, describing the document as a guiding force that continues to shape India's democracy while safeguarding the dignity and rights of every individual.Highlighting the Constitution a “living framework”, the Chief Justice emphasized the foundational guarantees of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. He underlined that constitutionalism is the true strength of democracy — ensuring that State power remains limited, accountable, and exercised within the rule of law.Referring to Article 21, he noted that the right to life and personal liberty has been expansively interpreted by the courts to include the right to live with dignity, encompassing essentials such as food, clean drinking water, shelter, health, education, and a clean environment. Governance, he stressed, must remain humane, responsive and sensitive to the needs of the weakest sections of society.Emphasizing the role of the judiciary, the Chief Justice urged all stakeholders to ensure that constitutional principles are not merely interpreted but effectively realized through judicial decisions and administrative actions that reinforce fairness, equality, democracy and human dignity. He called upon everyone in public life to reaffirm their commitment to the ideals enshrined in the Constitution.Hon'ble Justice Sanjay K. Agrawal, Hon'ble Justice Parth Prateem Sahu and Hon'ble Justice Rajani Dubey also addressed the gathering, highlighting the Constitution's pivotal role in upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens' rights. Senior Advocate Manoj Vishwanath Paranjpe and Advocate Aditi Singhvi further spoke on the Constitution's enduring significance in building a just and equitable society.The event was attended by Judges of the High Court — Justice Narendra Kumar Vyas, Justice Naresh Kumar Chandravanshi, Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari, Justice Sachin Singh Rajput, Justice Rakesh Mohan Pandey, Justice Radhakishan Agrawal, Justice Sanjay Kumar Jaiswal, Justice Ravindra Kumar Agrawal, Justice Arvind Kumar Verma, Justice Bibhu Datta Guru and Justice Amitendra Kishore Prasad.The ceremony saw participation from the Advocate General, Senior Advocates, Bar Members, Registrar General and Registry Officers, officers of the Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority (CGSLSA), Trainee Civil Judges (Batch of 2024), and staff members. The event concluded with the National Anthem, inspiring the attendees to uphold constitutional values and work towards a just and equitable future.
