"Country Relentlessly Facing Violence Due To Terror Activities, Cause Of Concern For Entire Humanity": Delhi Court Sentences Lashkar Man To 7 Years In Jail

Observing that the Country was relentessly facing violence due to terror activities, a Delhi Court has recently sentenced a 23 year old Lashkar e Taiba trained militant to seven years of rigorous imprisonment convicted for infiltrating into India with a motive to destabilize the country and to cause terrorist activities.Noting that awarding a sentencing is a tough call to make, Principal District and Sessions Judge Dinesh Kumar Sharma sentenced Mohd. Amir to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment and also clarified that he shall be deported back to Pakistan on completion of his sentence."The country is relentlessly facing violence on account of terror activities. Thousands of innocent people are killed in such activities. The terrorist activities not only cause loss of lives of innocent public but it also de-stabilizes the economy of the country. The terrorist activity is a cause of concern for the entire humanity," the Court said.Amir was convicted in April this year under sec. 120B & 121A of IPC, sec 18 & 20 of The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, sec. 25(1A) of the Arms Act, sec. 5 of the Explosives Substances Act, 1908, sec. 14 of the Foreigners Act, 1946 and sec. 6(1A) of the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1933.He was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police in the year 2017 after he was found to be a Pakistani national and a trained cadre of LeT. Later, various incriminating articles were seized from his possession including AK-47 rifles and hand grenades.It was the case of Amir that he had lost his father while his mother was a handicap. He prayed for minimum punishment for being of young age and wanting to live a normal life."The convict is admittedly a Pakistani national and he infiltrated into the territory of this country with advance weapons and other equipments. The convict was arrested with advance weapons and equipments along with communication equipments. The plea of the convict that he is a young person and a lenient view may be taken," the Court said.Accordingly, granting him the benefit under sec. 428 of CrPC, the Court sentenced him to 7 years of rigorous imprisonment.Title: NIA v.
