In the aftermath of the damage caused by cyclone Amphan which hit the state of West Bengal on Wednesday afternoon, functioning of the Calcutta High Court remained suspended today due to poor internet connectivity.

In a notification issued yesterday, the Registrar General of the High Court intimated that all the benches scheduled to hear cases on Friday, i.e. May 22, are cancelled in "anticipation of sustained connectivity issues".

    The notification reads,

"It is hereby notified for information of all concerned that the Benches, which are scheduled to be held tomorrow i.e. on 22.05.2020, will not sit in anticipation of poor connectivity issue sustaining the possibility of disrupting the smooth functioning of Benches through video conferencing. Consequently, cases will be rescheduled on the next sitting day."

The High Court has been observing restrictive functioning and had earlier announced that it will take up only extremely urgent matters via video conferencing until May 31, i.e. until expiry of the lockdown period.
