Listing a case under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, for next hearing on November 22, a Delhi Court refused to give shorter date citing “pendency of more than 8800 cases” before it.

“Shorter date requested, however the same is not possible as this court has pendency of more than 8800 cases,” Metropolitan Magistrate Aishwarya Sharma of Saket Courts said in an order passed on April 24.

The court was hearing a case registered under the NI Act by an entity namely City One Travels Private Limited against a private individual in 2021. Bailable warrants were issued against the accused person.

During the hearing, the court noted that the bailable warrants were received back unexecuted with the report of the house owner stating that the accused did not reside there. The owner further said that she had purchased the house in question eight years back.

Accordingly, the court issued the bailable warrants afresh on filing of correct address, or alternatively upon filing affidavit regarding physically verified address of the accused within eight weeks.

The court then listed the matter for November 22.
