Delhi HC Allows Police To Submit Case Diary In Sealed Cover In Bail Plea Of 'Pinjra Tod' Member Natasha Narwal

The Delhi Police has informed the Delhi High Court that it will be submitting the case diary pertaining to the FIR filed against Pinjra Tod member Natasha Narwal in a sealed cover as the content of the same is too sensitive to be revealed at this stage. The request for an 'in chamber' hearing was also made before the Single Bench of Justice Vibhu Bakhru by arguing that the content of the said case diary can't be revealed to the counsel of the Petitioner at this stage. In light of this information, the court has allowed the police to file the case diary in a sealed cover. The court will also be holding a 'restrictive hearing' on this matter on August 31, where the Petitioner's counsel will not be allowed to participate. 'We will hear you after having a look at the case diary', the court informed the Petitioner's counsel, Mr Adit S Pujari. Before directing for the restrictive hearing, the court had also suggested that the present matter can also be taken up for physical hearing as the High Court has decided to partially open up for conducting physical hearings on a rotational basis from September 1. Mr Pujari, however, did highlight the issue of multiple bail matters getting adjourned before the trial courts due to the failure of the Delhi Police to produce this case diary. Mr Pujari also submitted that this matter shall be decided expeditiously as Ms Narwal seeks to apply for her PhD programme at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, the notification for which has already been issued. Narwal is currently lodged in Tihar prison as an accused under three FIRs that have been registered against her for allegedly fuelling the riots. On March 23, Narwal was arrested in connection with a case filed against certain Anti-CAA protesters in Jaffrabad. However, she was immediately released on bail. On account of her being released on bail, another FIR was registered against for allegedly instigating the Delhi riots and she has been in judicial custody ever since. Narwal has been accused of various offences under the Indian Penal Code as well as the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act. The cases against her and another member of Pinjra Tod Devangana Kalita, are being investigated by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police. Earlier, Narwal had to move the Delhi High Court for seeking legal interviews with her lawyer through video conferencing and access to books and telephonic calls.
