Delhi High Court has directed Delhi Police to submit a status report in a plea claiming police brutality for not wearing masks while roaming around in streets.
The Single Bench of Justice Yogesh Khanna has directed the Delhi Police to submit the status report before May 05.
In the present criminal writ petition, the Petitioners claimed that on 20.04.2020, during the evening, they were forcibly taken from their residence to a police booth and were beaten up and illegally retained.
It was also submitted that after getting beaten up, a false case was thrusted upon both the Petitioners.
However, when the court perused the FIR lodged in the present case, it was revealed that police had objected to the Petitioner No.2's conduct of roaming in the locality without any mask and when asked about his conduct, he called up his brother and then both of them started beating up the police officials.
It was because of this beating up of the police, that the FIR was lodged against the Petitioner brothers.
In order to get the clarity on the case, the court directed Delhi Police to submit the status report before the next date of hearing.
The matter will next be taken up on May 06.
The Petitioner in the case was represented by Mr Varun Tyagi.
The state was represented by Additional Standing Counsel Ranvir Singh Kundu
