Delhi High Court Bar Association Adopts Village Kamirpura, District Ajnala, Punjab, To Rehabilitate Flood Victims

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) has officially adopted the community of Mirpura Village, falling under the Gram Panchayat of Chak Bala/Kamirpura in the Ajnala region of Punjab, as part of a major initiative to rehabilitate victims severely impacted by the recent floods. The relief effort, led by DHCBA President N. Hariharan, has seen generous contributions from many lawyers and others and aims to restore the livelihoods and homes of the affected residents. President N. Hariharan expressed deep gratitude to all donors, emphasizing the Association's commitment to providing aid to Punjab and other flood-affected states. The situation on the ground was assessed by a dedicated team comprising L.S. Bindra, Appu Singh, and Prateek Bhalla. Their findings confirmed the very pathetic condition of the victims. The village, located approximately 20 kilometers from Amritsar on the banks of the River Ravi, suffered catastrophic damage when the river overflowed, submerging 108 acres of valuable arable land under a mountain of debris. This devastation has deprived the local farmers and peasants of their primary source of income, leaving them in a state of crisis. Beyond the loss of livelihood, the team reported that several houses in the village have suffered severe structural damage, and there are acute shortages of essential household needs. As an ongoing measure, the DHCBA has proposed a comprehensive plan to clear the debris and actively work towards reviving the villagers' source of income. The initiative will also focus on addressing the shortage of basic household requirements. The Sarpanch of Gram Panchayat Chak Bala/Kamirpura conveyed the villagers' thanks and deepest gratitude to the Delhi High Court Bar Association for the aid offered during this critical time. In a letter to the Association, the Sarpanch noted that the floods have caused "immense damage to our homes, fields, and livelihoods, leaving us villagers in dire need of restoration and rehabilitation." The letter lauded the DHCBA's efforts, stating that the initiative brought "not only relief but also hope," and declaring the Association's "compassion and solidarity" to be "truly commendable." The Sarpanch and the villagers are reportedly highly hopeful and desirous of the initiative's success. To ensure complete transparency, the DHCBA has published a list of all donors and the support received to date, and has also enclosed videos of the ground situation and the letter from the Sarpanch expressing consent for the initiative.
