'Significant Step In Achieving Justice At Doorstep': Delhi High Court Acting CJ Manmohan On New Court Complex Stone Laying Foundation Ceremony

Delhi High Court's Acting Chief Justice, Justice Manmohan, on Tuesday said that the stone laying foundation ceremony of three new court complexes at Rohini, Shastri Park and Karkardooma is a significant step in achieving the “justice at doorstep” initiative.“I have no doubts that today's ceremony is a significant step forward in achieving the "Justice at Doorstep" initiative, which aims to make justice more accessible and efficient for all citizens,” ACJ Manmohan said. He said that the plans for the three projects are in tune with the existing District Courts in the national capital, which are frugal and functional.“These Court complexes will be universally accessible, ensuring that all individuals, regardless of physical ability, can navigate the premises comfortably. The structures are designed to be earthquake resilient, meeting all safety parameters to safeguard the well-being of all occupants,” the judge said.Other dignitaries present in the ceremony were Chief Justice of India Dr. D. Y. Chandrachud; Supreme Court judge, Justice Hima Kohli; Lt. Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena; Delhi Law Minister Atishi and judges of the Delhi High Court.ACJ Manmohan said that at the end of the year 2024, the actual strength of the District judiciary is virtually going to be at par with its sanctioned strength and that there shall be a shortage of 188 Court rooms.Underscoring that there is a dire need for more Court rooms and infrastructure, the judge said that adequate infrastructure is crucial to ensure litigants can effectively access the courts.He further said that the new buildings will be future-ready e-courts, embracing digital advancements to enhance operational efficiency and accessibility.ACJ Manmohan also said:- The Rohini Court complex will have 102 Court rooms and an auditorium with a capacity of 276, vulnerable witness deposition complexes, multi-level car parking for 483 cars and 362 lawyers chambers.- The Shastri Park Court complex will have 48 Court rooms and 175 lawyers desks to accommodate the growing needs of legal professionals.- The Karkardooma Court complex will have 50 Court rooms and will be connected to the main court complex via a foot-over bridge and skywalk, facilitating seamless integration and movement between the buildings.Also Read: Rough & Ready Justice Anathema To Rule Of Law; Courts Must Subserve No Might But Constitution : CJI DY ChandrachudThe event can be watched here.
