The Delhi High Court on Friday adjourned to September 9 hearing in a bail plea filed by Former AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain in connection with a Delhi Riots case alleging looting and damage to a furniture shop owned by one Zeeshan by rioters.

A single judge bench comprising of Justice Subramonium Prasad adjourned the hearing on the request of the counsel appearing on behalf of Hussain who sought an adjournment for a period of two weeks due to some personal difficulty.

FIR 117/2020 was registered on March 4, 2020 on the written complaint made by one Zeeshan stating that he received a call on 25th February by which he was informed that shutter of his Furniture Shop was broken and articles were allegedly looted by a group of rioters. It was thus alleged that as a result of the vandalism and loot, he had suffered a loss of Rs. 20 lakhs.

While adjourning the matter, the Court asked the parties as to whether a status report has been filed in the matter to which Special Public Prosecutor DK Bhatia apprised the Court that the same will be filed in case it is not done yet.

"Renotify on 9th September," the Court said while adjourning the matter.

In a similar development, a single judge bench comprising of Justice Mukta Gupta today issued notice on a petition filed by Tahir Hussain challenging the UAPA charges invoked against him in connection with the Delhi Riots larger conspiracy case and also seeking for quashing of sanction granted in this regard.

The writ petition challenges imposition of Sections 13, 16, 17, 18 of the UAPA in the chargesheet filed against Hussain under FIR 59/2020. The plea seeks setting aside of the aforesaid sections and also the grant of sanction for prosecution.

Additionally, the plea prays for setting aside of the approval given by the review committee towards the grant of sanction for prosecution under UAPA provisions invoked against Hussain.
