    A Delhi Court on Tuesday adjourned to August 7 hearing in bail application moved by Umar Khalid in connection with the Delhi Riots larger conspiracy case involving offences under UAPA and the Indian Penal Code. (FIR 59/2020)

    Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat adjourned the hearing at the request of Senior Advocate Trideep Pais appearing on behalf of Umar Khalid for the reason of receiving prosecution's reply earlier in the morning today.

    "My instructing counsel received the reply sometime late in the night. I received it in the morning. Can it be taken on some other day?" Pais said.

    The Court had then adjourned the hearing to August 7 after confirming the same with Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad appearing for the Prosecution.

    The FIR contains stringent charges including sec. 13, 16, 17, 18 of the UAPA, sec. 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and sec. 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act,1984. The accused persons are also charged under various offences of Indian Penal Code, 1860.

    During the course of hearing today, all the accused persons marked their presence via video conferencing after which the Court posted the matter for the next date of hearing on July 30.

    In September last year, main chargesheet was filed against Pinjara Tod members and JNU students Devangana Kalita and Natasha Narwal, Jamia Millia Islamia, student Asif Iqbal Tanha and student activist Gulfisha Fatima.

    Others who were charge-sheeted included former Congress Councillor Ishrat Jahan, Jamia Coordination Committee members Safoora Zargar, Meeran Haider and Shifa-Ur-Rehman, suspended AAP Councillor Tahir Hussain, activist Khalid Saifi, Shadab Ahmed, Tasleem Ahmed, Salim Malik, Mohd Salim Khan and Athar Khan.

    Thereafter, a supplementary chargesheet was filed in November against former JNU student leader Umar Khalid and JNU student Sharjeel Imam in a case related to the alleged larger conspiracy in the communal violence in northeast Delhi in February.
