    Former Supreme Court judge, Justice GT Nanavati who headed two inquiry commissions formed to probe into the 2002 Godhra Riots & 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots passed away today. Justice Girish Thakorlal Nanavati was 86

    He was born on 17th February 1935 and he enrolled as an Advocate in the Bombay High Court on 11th February 1958. He Remained on the Government Pleaders' Panel and thereafter, he was appointed a permanent Judge of the Gujarat High Court in July 1979.

    He was transferred to the Orissa High Court in December 1993 and was appointed as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court with effect from January 31, 1994.

    He was thereafter transferred as Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court in September 1994.

    He was elevated as the Judge of the Supreme Court of India with effect in March 1995  and he retired as an SC Judge in February 2000.

    Speaking to Live Law, Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association member Advocate Hardik Brahmbhatt confirmed that Justice Nanavati's cremation shall take place today at 5 pm.
