In consonance with the guidelines formulated by the Supreme Court in Swapnil Tripathi v. Supreme Court of India, the Gauhati High Court has commenced the live streaming of Court proceedings on its official YouTube Channel from 26-09-2022 for public viewing. The project has been implemented at present in respect of three nos. of Courts of the High Court. Thus, the proceedings of the Court No. 1 comprising the Chief Justice and Mr. Justice Soumitra Saikia, Court No. 2 of Mr. Justice N.K. Singh and Mrs. Justice S.P. Khaund and Court No. 6, Single Bench of Mr. Justice Suman Shyam (Chairman, I.C.T. Committee, Gauhati High Court) are being live-streamed initially with the assistance of the in-house IT team.

In order to facilitate seamless live telecast of Court proceedings, the High Court has also framed its own Rules, namely, the Gauhati High Court (Live Streaming and Recording of Court Proceedings) Rules, 2022 which have also come into effect from today.

"It is believed that the live-streaming of Court proceedings will strengthen the rule of law and the idea of open Court, and it will also improve access to justice, which, in turn, will ensure an effective administration of justice", the High Court said in a press release.

Yesterday, in a historic move, the Supreme Court commenced the live-streaming of the hearings in the Constitution Benches.

The High Courts of Gujarat, Karnataka and Odisha are also live-streamed.
