The Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association has unanimously resolved to prefer an appeal against a Division Bench ruling of the High Court, holding Advocate Yatin Oza guilty of criminal contempt.

The Association has also resolved to intervene in the writ proceedings pending before the Supreme Court whereby Oza has challenged the Gujarat High Court's decision to strip him of his designation as senior.

The General Body of the Advocates' Association has authorized its Vice-President and Secretary to do the needful in view of the above resolution.

"The said resolution was put to vote and as there was unanimity and no objection from any member present and said resolution was passed unanimously and the Vice-President and Secretary have been authorized by the General Body to request Advocate on record and the Senior Counsel to file and appear in the Intervention Application before the Hon'ble Apex Court in the matter being Writ Petition (Civil) No. 734 of 2020 and also in appeal that may be filed against the Order passed in contempt proceedings being Criminal Misc. Application No. 8120 of 2020 in support of its President Shri Yatin Oza," a press note issued by the Association states.

The resolution was passed by the Managing Committee of GHCAA on Thursday and was approved by the General Body today.

The resolution was moved after a member of the Association, Punit Juneja, presented a requisition to this effect.

The Gujarat High Court held Advocate Yatin Oza liable for criminal contempt on Tuesday in the backdrop of "scurrilous remarks" made by him against High Court and its Registry, during a live press conference on Facebook.

The Bench punished him till rising of the Court on Wednesday, apart from imposing a fine of Rs. 2,000.

The High Court had previously stripped him of his senior designation, and proceedings against that decision are pending before the High Court. The same was listed for directions on September 29 but was deferred in the backdrop of then pending contempt proceedings before the High Court.
