The Gujarat High Court Advocates' Association has convened a meeting on Thursday (July 23) to discuss the reported excessive use of force by Delhi police on students and young persons during the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar over their demand for education reforms.

After a requisition was recieved by 174 advocates, the President of GHCAA, senior advocate Yatin Oza announce to convene a meeting at the bar room at 1:45pm today.

The requisition sent by the bar members reads as follows:

"Members of the legal profession have a duty to stand in support of constitutional values,democratic dialogue and the right of citizens to peacefully raise matters of public importance. Itis therefore appropriate that the Association deliberate upon the issue and express its collectiveconcern.

We accordingly requisition that an urgent General Meeting of the Gujarat High Court Advocates'Association be convened at earliest to consider the following agenda:

'To discuss the reported excessive and brutal use of force by the Delhi Police against students andyoung persons protesting at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, and to consider passing an appropriateresolution condemning such action and calling upon the Government to engage in meaningful dialoguewith the protesting youth regarding their demands for education reforms' ".
