The Gujarat High Court Advocates Association on Friday (October 9) strongly condemned the alleged house arrest of a practicing advocate in Sabarkantha, calling it "high-handed" and "arbitrary".
The body in a resolution passed today said that the action was without legal sanction, notice, or written order.
The Association has called upon the Director General of Police (DGP) and the Superintendent of Police (SP), Sabarkantha, to immediately furnish a full explanation along with the legal authority under which the said action was executed, and to take strict disciplinary action against the officers responsible for disregarding due procedure.
The body has also urged the State Government to forthwith introduce and enact a comprehensive Advocates Protection Act in the State to provide institutional safeguards, legal protections, and remedy against illegal interference, intimidation, harassment, and arbitrary action against Advocates in connection with their professional duties.
It has further resolved that the Bar President and Managing Committee of the Association will:
1. Lead a delegation to submit formal representations to the Chief Justice of the High Court of Gujarat and the Minister for Law & Justice, Government of Gujarat.
2. Coordinate with other district bar associations to build a unified movement demanding the early enactment of the Advocate Protection Act.
3. Provide all necessary legal, professional, and institutional support to Advocate Satyesha Leuva in initiating appropriate legal remedies before the competent Court of Law.
