Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi Legal Service Authority to submit a status report stating whether there's a need to continue with the hunger relief camps, providing dry ration to the non-PDS beneficiaries as also providing cooked food to those who are using night shelters provided by the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board.

The Division Bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Subramonium Prasad has further directed the DLSA to look into the pleadings filed in the application seeking extension of Mukhya Mantri Corona Sahayta Yojana and conduct an independent recce before filing the status report, keeping in mind the current situation.

The order has come in an application moved by the Delhi Rozi Roti Adhikar Abhiyan, seeking adequate ration for all the persons residing in Delhi who are in need of it, with or without a ration card.

The application sought a direction to be issued to the Delhi Government to resume the scheme of providing dry ration under the Mukhya Mantri Corona Sahayta Yojana or any other Scheme, to continue accepting E-coupon applications, to continue operating kiosks/helpdesks for facilitating the applicants for receiving the benefit of dry ration and to ensure resumption of hunger relief centres for providing hot cooked meals.

After considering the reports, the court did not feel inclined to entertain the present petition.

However, Senior Advocate Sanjay Parikh, who was appearing for the Petitioner, submitted that that in the common rejoinder filed in response to the two affidavits filed by the Delhi Government, it has been specifically stated that there is still a requirement for provision of free cooked meals to hunger relief centres, for providing ration to non-PDS beneficiaries and for providing cooked food to those who are staying at night shelters.

Since the Petitioner could not provide with exact figures, the court granted Mr Parikh some time to ascertain the exact figures and produce them before the court.

Meanwhile, DLSA has been directed to look into the averments made in the application and conduct an independent recce. Subsequently, DLSA will be filing a status report on whether the said scheme for providing dry ration and running hunger relief camps shall be continued or not.
