Jharkhand State Bar Council on Friday decided to call off the strike against the hike in court fee, after the Bar Council of India (BCI) Chairman directed it to end the boycott of courts.

The decision was taken after the general body of the State Bar Council considered the direction of the Bar Council Of India. "The Jharkhand State Bar Council has resolved to recall the abstention of the Courts/Tribunal/Executive Court after 13.1.2023," Secretary of the State Bar Council said in a letter.

BCI Chairman earlier directed the State Bar Council to furnish reasons for such extreme step of strike by it and to explain why it did not move before the high court for redressal of grievances.

According to a report by The Hindu, the lawyers were on strike since January 6 after the State Assembly passed the Court Fees Amendment Bill.

The State Bar Council had earlier issued notice to the Secretary of Jharkhand High Court Advocates Association seeking confirmation about the appearance of seven advocates in courts, in violation of its call for boycott of court. The notice also was withdrawn on Friday.

Senior Advocate Anil Kumar Sinha, whose name was mentioned in the notice, had filed a contempt petition before Jharkhand High Court against the State Bar Council. According to a Times Of India report, the notice had been stayed by the court on Thursday.
