Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Launches Legal Services Clinics To Aid Defence Personnel, Ex-Servicemen & Their Families

The Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) last week inaugurated Legal Services Clinics dedicated to Defence Personnel, Ex-Servicemen and their dependent family members, across all districts in the state under the aegis of the NALSA Veer Parivar Sahayta Yojna 2025.Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan, who is also the Patron-in-Chief JHALSA, virtually launched the clinics at the programme held at Kerketta Auditorium in Ranchi on September 13. Speaking at the launch the Chief Justice said:"Legal Services Clinics for bravehearts, veterans, and their families are not mere ceremonial events but a solemn pledge. This is the judiciary's humble tribute to those who have dedicated their lives to safeguarding the nation. The Judiciary of Jharkhand stands firmly with our soldiers”. The ceremony was attended by Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad who is also JHALSA's Executive Chairman, Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi, Justice Sanjay Prasad, Major General Sajjan Singh Maan, GOC, 23 Infantry Division and Brigadier Raj Kumar, Sena Medal, Deputy GOC, 23 Infantry Division. Senior Army officers, judicial officers, the DIG-cum-Senior Superintendent of Police, the Deputy Commissioner, Ranchi, and Chairpersons and Secretaries of DLSAs joined virtually from all districts. A 90-Day Campaign under the Veer Parivar Sahayta Yojna was launched alongside the clinics with the stated objective of creating wide awareness and identifying maximum beneficiaries so that “immediate relief may be provided to them.”Delivering the welcome address, Ms. Kumari Ranjana Asthana, Member Secretary, JHALSA, highlighted that under the leadership of the Patron-in-Chief and Executive Chairman, JHALSA has expanded its outreach to the remotest corners of Jharkhand, adding that the campaign aims to provide all possible legal assistance to defence personnel, ex-servicemen, and their dependent family members. Major General Sajjan Singh Maan, GOC, 23 Infantry Division, in his special address, congratulated NALSA and JHALSA for conceptualising and implementing the Veer Parivar Sahayta Yojna, calling it a “landmark initiative for the welfare of defence personnel and their families.” Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, stated that the scheme was launched on the advice of the Chief Justice with the purpose of ensuring that immediate relief reaches beneficiaries in need of legal assistance. He emphasised that the object is not only to provide legal aid to serving Army personnel and their dependents but also to make them aware of their legal and constitutional rights under Article 39A of the Constitution of India.In parallel, the National Lok Adalat was held statewide. Around 288 Benches were constituted and 1,901,846 pre-litigation and 160,032 pending cases were disposed of, with settlements amounting to Rs 9,24,93,44,880.Click here to read / download the press release
